Learning Journey with Pre-University Students: Real Stories, Real Impact

On 2 June, HCSA Community Services hosted 24 pre-university students, along with their facilitators and teachers, for a learning journey organised by the National Council of Social Services (NCSS) 🙌

To kick things off, we brought the students on a walkabout tour of our spaces. Along the way, they heard from our programme heads about the work we do and the communities we serve 💬🏘️

📚 One highlight of the day was our Human Library segment. For this, we wanted the students to get a real and honest look into the journey of reintegration, so we invited a couple of our staff members who were former offenders to share their stories. We were lucky to have one of our long-serving team members join us as a human library. He was actually a former resident of HCSA Highpoint back in 1998! He shared his powerful story of transformation, from his time at Highpoint to the life he has built today. The students were invited to ask our human libraries anything, and they sure did — posing inquisitive and, sometimes, tough questions that led to some very worthwhile conversations.

It was great to see the students so engaged and curious throughout. We love to see young minds curious, driven by a genuine interest to learn and understand. 💡🧠

A big thank you to NCSS for putting this learning journey together and for inspiring the next generation of social service professionals! 💛
