Everesting for Second Chances

Climb for hope.
Stand with ex-offenders on their uphill journey home.

At HCSA Community Services, we believe that the past does not define a person’s future. Many ex-offenders want to rebuild their lives, but the road back is often steep — marked by stigma, broken relationships and limited opportunities.

Everesting for Second Chances is our signature endurance challenge that rallies the whole community to stand with ex-offenders as they work towards reintegration, dignity and a fresh start. Inspired by the height of Mount Everest, participants clock elevation gain through cycling or other physical activities — a powerful symbol of the uphill climb our beneficiaries face every day.

When you take on this challenge, you’re not just pushing your own limits. You’re helping ex-offenders and their families rise together.

Who you are supporting

Funds raised through Everesting for Second Chances go towards HCSA Community Services’ reintegration efforts, including:

  • HCSA Highpoint – providing safe accommodation, counselling, casework and community support to ex-offenders in their first steps back into society.

  • HCSA Academy – equipping vulnerable and low-wage workers, including ex-offenders, with professional skills and coaching in the F&B industry so they can secure stable jobs and provide for their families.

Your participation helps to:

  • Keep halfway house and support services running for men exiting incarceration

  • Provide skills training, job support and mentoring so they can rebuild livelihoods

  • Strengthen family relationships, giving children and loved ones the stability they need

Every metre climbed and every dollar raised becomes a step towards second chances for those working hard to restart their lives.

How the challenge works

Each edition of Everesting for Second Chances invites individuals, families, community groups and corporations to:

  • Choose their challenge — from the full “Everesting” distance to more accessible elevation targets, so people of different fitness levels can take part

  • Track their elevation using a GPS-enabled fitness app over a set campaign period

  • Join as individuals or teams — colleagues, friends, cycling clubs, families or interest groups

  • Fundraise as they climb — inviting supporters to give towards their personal or team target

All registration fees and donations (after expenses) go directly towards supporting HCSA Community Services’ reintegration programmes and the families journeying alongside our beneficiaries.
