“I’m a husband and a father of two young children. My dream has always been to set up my own catering company – one that offers the best service to my customers. Now that I have Higher Certificate in Culinary Arts from HCSA Academy, I really hope to move on and complete my Diploma if I’m given the chance to do so.
When I first heard about the Academy’s culinary course during a talk in prison, I thought it seemed interesting and also used a framework that was simple for me to understand. So I approached Ma’am Norie (Administrator) to sign up.
Beyond learning different cooking methods and how to prepare mise en place before cooking, I personally enjoyed the topic on hygiene and safety as I saw how important it was in the kitchen – as important as the cooking techniques themselves. The course really prepared me for what to expect in the real F&B working world and how to allocate my time when working in a kitchen. We got to serve real customers and apply our best culinary skills to each order during the on-the-job training, which was an eye-opening experience for me!
I’m really thankful to the Academy for giving me the best experience and knowledge that I could get from the course – even more than what I had expected. I would say that this is a very good stepping stone for anyone who wants to become a cook or even chef. All you need to do is turn up and do your best, and you’ll never know how much knowledge you could get!”
