Everesting for Everyone – HCSA’s ‘Everesting for Second Chances’ returns with an all-inclusive challenge and new collaboration with Trek Bicycle

Singapore, 25 May 2025  Organised by HCSA Community Services (HCSA), ‘Everesting for Second Chances’ (Everesting) is back for its third edition with renewed momentum. The campaign aims to raise awareness on the social challenges of the reintegration of ex-offenders among the community. From 1 June to 31 July 2025, Everesting challenges participants to cycle an elevation gain of 8,848m – equivalent to the height of Mount Everest. Whether indoors or outdoors, this feat of endurance symbolises the uphill journey of reintegration for ex-offenders.

2        Supported by Yellow Ribbon Singapore, Singapore Cycling Federation and National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, this year’s campaign introduces the new Everesting Lite category. Participants can jog, cycle, run or hike to complete an elevation gain of 848.8 metres instead of the full 8,848m. This all-inclusive category hopes to encourage everyone – first-timers, seniors and families – to participate at their own pace and showcase the importance of whole-of-community support. HCSA also launched this year’s edition with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Trek Bicycle (Trek), marking a shared commitment to inclusivity and community rehabilitation through sportsMr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Social and Family Development & Ministry of Law witnessed the ceremony held at Shimano Cycling World.

3        “The journey of reintegration must not be walked alone. With Everesting, we hope to rally everyone to do their part to support these ex-offenders who are working hard to rebuild their life. Whether it is cycling up Mount Faber or climbing the hilly slope at your neighbourhood park, every elevation gained represents a second chance at a new beginning,” said Kim Lang KhalilCEO at HCSA. “This year, we are especially heartened by our partnership with Trek, which has opened up more opportunities for the public to get involved.”

4        Driven by their mission to change the world by getting more people on bikes, Trek is fuelling the excitement for Everesting with more than just product sponsorship. “At Trek, we believe cycling builds communities, breaks stigmas, and can serve as a powerful vehicle for change,” said Philip Ho, General Manager, Trek Bicycle Singapore. When we first learnt about HCSA, we knew this was a journey we wanted to be part of. Our support for Everestingfrom campaign promotions to exciting prizes, and support at satellite events—reflects our shared belief in the transformative power of community. Through this collaboration, we hope to give both people and bicycles a renewed purpose, and we welcome the cycling community to join us in uplifting those facing life’s toughest climbs.”

5        The campaign aims to raise $350,000 this year, with all proceeds raised going towards HCSA to support ex-offenders on their journey of reintegration. These funds will enable HCSA to continue providing critical support through HCSA Highpoint, a residential and after-care programme that offers a structured and safe environment for ex-offenders and HCSA Academy, which provides vocational training and employability skills to secure employment. Through their comprehensive support programmes and services, HCSA empowers ex-offenders to rebuild their lives, reconnect with their families and pursue long-term desistance from crime.

6        Critically, the funds raised through the campaign will support the renovation of HCSA Highpoint’s residential facilities for inmates serving the tail-end of their sentence, so that HCSA can enhance their rehabilitative amenities and install senior-friendly support such as anti-slip flooring, grab bars and railings, as Singapore’s prison inmate population ages alongside the general population.

7        To make the challenge more accessible and community-driven, this year’s campaign will be decentralised with Everesting satellite events hosted by various cycling groups across Singapore. Participants may choose to complete their rides at their own pace and time or join in the Everesting satellite events at Mount Faber. As part of its campaign support, Trek will be offering attractive prizes such as high-performance Madone range bike. They will also be rallying the cycling community to join the challenge, amplifying the campaign through social media, in-store promotions and powering satellite events. Participants can visit Trek Bicycle Singapore CBD Store at Manulife Tower to collect their goodie bags or find out more on how they can support Everesting. Looking ahead, Trek is exploring ways to deepen its impact by giving bicycles a second chance, ensuring greater impact through cycling in a lasting partnership with HCSA that will inspire communities in 2025 and beyond.

8        Members of the public can support the campaign by participating in the challenge or by making a direct donation – all donations are eligible for tax deduction. For more information on how to participate, track fundraising progress or details of the satellite events, please visit www.secondchances.sg.
