HCSA Community Services launches AIMSpace – Singapore’s first dedicated community space for former halfway house residents and their families

AIMS, an alumni support group of HCSA Community Services, celebrated a significant milestone on their sixth anniversary with the launch of AIMSpace, which marks a new chapter as the first dedicated community space in support of ex-offender reintegration and strengthening family ties.

Singapore, 23 August 2025 AIMS, an alumni support group of HCSA Community Services, celebrated a significant milestone on their sixth anniversary with the launch of AIMSpace. AIMS supports former residents and their families of its halfway house HCSA Highpoint, a residential programme that offers a structured and safe environment. AIMSpace marks a new chapter as the first dedicated community space in support of reintegration and strengthening family ties. The launch saw over 160 guests including Guest-of-Honour, Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs.

AIMSpace will be a safe harbour for its members to go deep, grow, and connect alongside families, volunteers and partners. It will serve as a hub for therapy sessions, training workshops, and community bonding activities. Importantly, it also aims to strengthen family ties, providing opportunities for open dialogue, shared experiences, and healing.

Operated by HCSA staff, AIMSpace is expected to benefit more than 130 alumni and their families, empowering them through five pillars of reintegration under the PATHS framework: Personal Growth, Achieving in Family, Thriving in Career, Housing Stability, and Strong Community.

“The journey of reintegration does not end with the return to society, it continues with a whole-of-community support and connection that powers reintegration,” said Mrs Kim Lang Khalil, CEO of HCSA. “AIMSpace is where our alumni members can rebuild their lives together with people who care for them. Our aim is for every individual who walks through our doors to feel seen, supported, and inspired to keep going.”

This launch shines a light on the collective spirit that powers reintegration: volunteers, businesses, and community networks joining hands in a whole-of-community approach. The recent Everesting for Second Chances initiative brought this spirit into motion, with participants cycling for transformation – each pedal a powerful reminder that redemption is a shared journey. As part of the campaign, participants are challenged to cycle a cumulative elevation gain of 8,848 metres, equivalent to the height of Mount Everest or the height of 3,160 HDB floors, to represent the uphill journey of reintegration for ex-offenders. This year, the campaign has raised over $215,000 with donations still being accepted until 31 August. The generous support of HCSA’s partners, sponsors and donors including Trek Singapore, BikeBaju, Ciclo E Caffe, Break the Cycle, Rolling Pineapple, Nanyang Inc, Singapore Pools and Gilead Sciences has provided not only funding, but valuable resources and platforms to rally the wider community around the cause of second chances. These funds will go towards sustaining HCSA’s programmes through HCSA Highpoint, and HCSA Academy, which provides vocational training and employability skills to secure employment.

“After leaving the halfway house, it may sometimes feel like we are left to navigate the rest of our journey alone, but that is not true. AIMS has helped me find stability and a true sense of community. It is more than just a support group; we are like family. With AIMSpace, we get to have a safe place to come together, grow and support one another,” said Feroz Haron, a member who helped established AIMS.

Driven by a shared belief in second chances, the launch of AIMSpace, is a bold step forward in HCSA’s mission to empower vulnerable communities to lead purposeful lives. As Singapore’s first dedicated community space for former halfway house residents and their families, the hub strengthens the aftercare support available to those rebuilding their lives.

About HCSA Community Services

HCSA Community Services is a charitable organisation with Institution of a Public Character (IPC) status and a member of the National Council of Social Service. The organisation was launched in 1996 as a halfway house for recovering drug addicts and ex-offenders under its HCSA Highpoint programme. About HCSA Highpoint

At HCSA Highpoint, we provide a safe and substance-free shelter for male ex-offenders. We are a community partner of Singapore Prison Service and the multi-agency CARE Network under the Enhanced Halfway House Service Model.

HCSA Highpoint is also proud to support and oversee two ground-up initiatives by our alumni and their loved ones: AIMS, the alumni after-care group; and WISDOM, the pro-social support network by their significant others. We are a community partner of the SPS Desistor Network.

With your help, we can foster a supportive community where former offenders can regain their independence, reconnect with their families, and contribute positively to society as proud desistors.

With the right support, second chances can lead to transformed lives. Find out more at https://hcsa.org.sg/programmes/hcsa-highpoint/.
