The Straits Times: One challenge after another, but ITE student still finds ways to shine

Azaleagrace Teo: A Story of Resilience

After enduring nearly seven years of abuse, Azaleagrace Teo sought help at age 15 and was placed in multiple care facilities, including HCSA Dayspring Residential Treatment Centre. Despite the upheaval—relocating eight times and repeating Secondary 4—she pressed on.

Choosing passion over comfort, she pursued a Higher Nitec in Interactive Design at ITE College Central, graduating in 2025 with a perfect GPA of 4.0.

She was one of 10 recipients of the Lee Kuan Yew Model Student Award and served as vice-president of the yoga club, while actively contributing to student and fundraising events.

Today, she gives back by volunteering with Owena, the alumni association of HCSA Dayspring, serving as secretary and helping organise events for trauma survivors. Now a first-year media, arts, and design student at Singapore Polytechnic, she continues to work and study, driven to support others who face adversity.
